Equality and Diversity
The basic equality of all human beings has always been fundamental to Catholic belief and teaching. St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School acknowledges and welcomes the diversity of its pupils, staff, governors and visitors.
The school’s Equality Policy outlines the commitment of staff and governors to promoting equality. This involves identifying and tackling barriers that could lead to unequal outcomes, ensuring equality of access for all, and celebrating and valuing the diversity within the school community. Equality is a principle that underpins all aspects of school life and is the responsibility of every member of the school and wider community.
Every member of the school community should feel safe, secure, valued and of equal worth. At St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, equality is a key principle in ensuring that everyone is treated fairly and with respect, regardless of gender, ethnicity, disability, religious belief or faith tradition, sexual orientation, age, or any other protected characteristic as outlined in the Equality Act 2010.
The school promotes the principles of fairness and justice for all through the education it provides and through the example set by the whole school community.
Equality Objectives
To ensure these principles are put into practice, the school has established three Equality Objectives. These are monitored by the Governing Body and reviewed annually:
-
To ensure the effective implementation of the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED).
-
To promote pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development through appropriate curricular opportunities, with particular reference to equality and diversity.
-
To increase the extent to which all pupils, particularly those with protected characteristics as defined by the Equality Act 2010, feel valued and confident, enabling them to make at least good progress.
