SEND Provision
The community of St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School reflects and celebrates the diversity of God’s family. The school is committed to meeting the needs of every child. All children are valued as unique individuals and are provided with the best opportunities to achieve their full potential, including those who may face barriers to learning.
The school works diligently to identify children who require additional support, whether for cognition and learning, communication and interaction, sensory or physical needs, or social, emotional and mental health. This process of identification begins when a child enters the Preschool setting and continues throughout their time at the school.
Role of the SENCO
The Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) plays a key role in supporting pupils and families, including:
-
Working with class teachers to advise on and recommend resources and intervention programmes.
-
Monitoring the effectiveness of interventions through the school’s tracking systems.
-
Reviewing pupil progress with parents, class teachers, and the children themselves on a half-termly basis.
-
Serving as the primary contact point after the class teacher for any concerns regarding special educational needs.
-
Coordinating referrals to external agencies in partnership with parents and keeping families informed of dates and outcomes.
-
Collaborating with class teachers to discuss and review interventions regularly.
The school ensures that families are supported and fully informed throughout their child’s learning journey.
